Shops and cafes lie beneath Google's new campus, and cycle paths criss-cross the area, landscaped with trees and outdoor seating areas
Google have revealed their plans to build new headquarters in the Californian town of Mountain View.
It is the first time that Google have built their offices from scratch, and the tech giant commissioned British architect Thomas Heatherwick and Danish company BIG to come up with the design. The resulting buildings look like a spiders' webs, with translucent coverings above an undulating wooden platform.

The eagerly-awaited blueprint has been submitted to the city council. The authorities will then have to decide whether to grant permission for the complex to be built.
Announcing the plans on their blog, Google said that the idea was to create a flexible working environment for their thousands of staff working on a myriad of projects.
"The idea is simple. Instead of constructing immoveable concrete buildings, we’ll create lightweight block-like structures which can be moved around easily as we invest in new product areas. (Our self-driving car team, for example, has very different needs when it comes to office space from our Search engineers.) "Large translucent canopies will cover each site, controlling the climate inside yet letting in light and air. With trees, landscaping, cafes, and bike paths weaving through these structures, we aim to blur the distinction between our buildings and nature."
Google also published a video, featuring Heatherwick and his team discussing the philosophy behind the complex.
